In this brief transition episode, Sabrina announces a major milestone for The HR Connection. Effective today, our weekly podcast release schedule is wrapping up as we prepare to launch exclusively as a monthly spotlight show on the HR Happy Hour Network.

Listen in to discover why we are shifting to a monthly cadence, what this means for our content depth and strategic frameworks, and how to stay connected with our bi-weekly YouTube teardowns and LinkedIn case studies.

Key Takeaways

  • The Big Transition: The HR Connection is moving from a weekly self-published podcast to a featured monthly show on the HR Happy Hour Network.

  • Why the Shift? Moving to the longest-running, most listened-to network in HR tech allows us to prioritize high-impact executive interviews, deep-dive teardowns, and strategic alignment frameworks over weekly noise.

  • Mark Your Calendar: Our next episodes on the HR Happy Hour Network drop August 28th and September 26th.

  • Continuous Content: Even with a monthly podcast schedule, weekly frameworks and deep-dive video teardowns will continue bi-weekly on YouTube and personal LinkedIn feeds.

  • Welcome back to the HR Connection, the podcast built solely for those managing HR in a 1:500. My name is Sabrina Baker, I'm the CEO and founder of Acacia HR Solutions. We are a small employer, 1:500 focused, fractional HR support firm. Why do we carve out 1:500? Because HR is different for that group. It's not "smaller HR," it's not "less HR," it is its own discipline. And it has been our goal with this podcast: to bring light to the unique issues that are faced inside of small employers, that our larger counterparts do not have to deal with. And we have been doing that successfully for over a year now. Today's episode is going to be really short and sweet, and it marks a massive milestone for us, and I'm really excited to tell you about it, so let's get into it. If you have been listening for a while, certainly through this year, you know that in February we launched the HR Connection as part of the HR Happy Hour Network. So we started in May of 2025 as our own weekly podcast, as part of Acacia and on our own platform. And then at the end of last year and into the beginning of this year, I was having conversations with Steve Bose and Trish Steed from the HR Happy Hour Network about adding the HR Connection as part of their show lineup. So they have around 8 shows, I believe, that run—8 different podcasts—that run as part of the HR Happy Hour Network. And one of the things that they said to me was, "We don't have a show, and we don't think a show exists," that speaks to that group. That group that is managing HR in a 1:500. It is its own discipline. It is, um, does bring very unique challenges that don't happen in its much larger counterparts. And so they asked us to be a part of their network and to release monthly episodes on the HR Happy Hour. So we started that in February, and we have had episodes every single month since then on the HR Happy Hour Network. At the same time, we were still releasing our weekly episodes. So every week on our—our Acacia network, on Wednesdays we were releasing weekly episodes. And what I have learned is that doing both, and having exclusive episodes on the HR Happy Hour Network, and having our own weekly episodes, was getting a little bit much. It was getting a little bit daunting to record those episodes, those two separate episodes, kind of keep them separate, and then also the other things that we're doing in the business—and running a business, right? I am the CEO, so trying to run the business. And so as I've been looking at where are our people, where is our audience, where are people listening to us, what we found is that the HR Happy Hour Network, because of its already massive reach—I think they've been, you know, podcasting since before podcasting was cool, the HR Happy Hour has shows that have been going on since before people were really podcasting—and so they have built a massive audience, and the show on the HR Happy Hour Network is doing really, really well. And it's getting, you know, quite a bit more reach and listeners than is happening on our own network. And so officially, what we want to do is move the HR Connection exclusively to the HR Happy Hour Network. So effective next month, in September, this show will be wrapping up the weekly release. This is going to be the last episode of our weekly release schedule, and moving exclusively to that monthly spotlight on the HR Happy Hour. If you are not subscribed there, please do so, because after this, we won't have any more releases and our shows are going to go exclusively to the HR Happy Hour. We'll make sure that the link to subscribe is posted in this show notes. So, you know, as I said, a couple of reasons for this pivot. The first one is just network reach, and kind of the ability to get in front of the right people. One of the things that we have always struggled with is we want to—I desperately want to—build a community for small business HR practitioners, because I don't think one exists. I've talked about that a lot on this podcast. I think that if you go to conferences, if you go to, you know, most webinars, most blogs, most podcasts are built for the large enterprise practitioner. And so I've always wanted to make sure that I could build something for those small business HR practitioners, but it's hard to find them. It's hard to get them, because they're—you're so busy. I know. You're doing a million things. And so to find a new podcast, to find a new thing for you to listen to or do and add to your to-do list is very difficult. And the HR Happy Hour already had so many of those people baked in, that were already listening to their shows, because Trish and Steve are great about making sure that a lot of their content isn't exclusive to enterprise level. They already had that kind of reach, and so just that network reach was really important. And I'm kind of spinning my wheels on our own network, trying to figure out how to get the reach where, you know, with them, it's already baked in there. The other thing is content depth. So, as I mentioned, doing a weekly podcast for us. I also have a YouTube channel. We also have blogs. You know, there's lots of things we're trying to do to get content out to people and kind of meet them where they are. And what I'm finding is that trying to do that weekly, plus a monthly one for the HR Happy Hour, plus YouTube, I was diluting the content a little bit. I was just trying to get stuff together and get stuff out, and I don't want to do that. I want to be able to give every episode the best content and really be able to meet you where you are with the challenges that I know you're facing in small business HR, because we face it every day too. We are doing this exact work. And I don't want to just try to throw something out there to get an episode out. I want to be able to spend time and think about what is going to help you best. What can I share that's going to make a difference for you the most? And so by streamlining and saying that I'm just going to do the one episode a month on the HR Happy Hour, that really allows me to dial in on really good content. Spend more time on that episode, which allows me to bring you, you know, really depth to the content. I don't want to be giving these superficial hacks. I don't want to be—I don't want you to listen to an episode and think, "Well, that wasn't helpful at all," or "That's not—she doesn't understand me," because that's not true. We do, and we are doing these things, and I want to continue to be able to tell you how we're doing it, how we're working through it, give you ideas, give you suggestions, and have that content be as helpful as it always has been. So instead of these kind of weekly check-ins, once a month I'm going to be giving you a deep dive, tear-down, executive interviews, strategic frameworks, just really good stuff. The goal is certainly to start to bring on some guests who can also bring insight into small business HR life. I would love to continue to talk to small business HR practitioners. So if you're listening and you're in a 1:500 and you would love to come on and share how you navigate that, I would love for you to do that. You can always reach out. But we—I understand the challenges you face, and I think that, you know, we are uniquely positioned to understand them very, very well. And I want to make sure that I can continue to deliver really high-quality episodes that actually help you navigate the challenges you have. So here's what that means. This, again, is the last episode on the Acacia HR Network, and then our next episode on HR Happy Hour. If you are listening to this in real time when it drops, so today when this episode drops is August 26th, and we have an episode on the HR Happy Hour on August 28th that you can subscribe to and listen. And then officially in September, it will just be the monthly episodes. And the next one would be September 26th, so usually around the third or fourth Friday of every month. So please, if you have not, please go subscribe to the HR Happy Hour Network. You can just subscribe to the whole network and get all the shows, just our show, whatever you want to do, but I think that it would be really great if you could subscribe there. And then if that is not enough, you want more, we still have our YouTube. That is going to be biweekly. Those are obviously videos where I'm speaking CEO to CEO. So I try to frame those as a CEO growing a small business, but two CEOs also growing small businesses, and talking about some of the things that I know are challenging from a CEO perspective that could also help you. So while the tone of it is more CEO to CEO, I absolutely think HR practitioners could listen or watch and get something out of it. And maybe—I've talked about this before—but I'm always about finding content. If I can't get my CEO to hear me on something, or a CEO to hear me on something, I'm always about finding an article, or finding a YouTube video, or finding something else that I can send to them and just say, "Hey, here's something else to think about on that topic we were talking about." So you might find the YouTube helpful in that respect. Of course, we're active on—I'm active on LinkedIn, our company page too, so you can connect with me personally on LinkedIn, or just follow our company page if that once-a-month platform isn't enough for you and you want more, then please connect with us in other places, because we're constantly sending out tips and tricks and hacks—helpful hacks—on other platforms. And then the biggest thing I think to know is that the exact same practical, no-nonsense approach to organizational strategy in a small business is not going away. So there's nothing changing about the content itself. It will still absolutely be geared towards small businesses. It will still absolutely speak to the challenges you face. So you're not going to get from us, like, "Go buy this expensive software," or "Go do something that actually requires a team of 10." We see that many of you are HR departments of 1, or you are HR departments of none, meaning you are, like, the accountant who is also stuck with HR, or the marketing person who somehow got stuck with employee relations. We understand that that's who you are. And so the content and the way that I talk about it is not going to change. It's just simply that we are moving to a bigger stage, really, just a bigger platform that allows us to amplify that voice, which is what we've desperately needed. We don't have a bigger advocate for small business HR. You know, I've been kind of it for many, many years, and now exclusively moving to the HR Happy Hour Network gives us that bigger stage to bring that voice, and hopefully a bigger spotlight, to those managing HR in a small environment. So that's really it. That's what I wanted to share today. You know, I am all about trial and error, figuring out what works best, doing something, and if I feel like it's not helping the people that I mean for it to help, then I want to pivot and I want to be able to move it. And I'm so thankful that I—that we do have this network that we can move to, and rather than have this kind of podcast of our own that we're trying to get in front of the right people, and it takes a long time, and the market is so saturated with podcasts today that the reach was just not moving the way we wanted it to, I'm so thankful to Trish and Steve that they have their network and they're willing to open it up to us, and really to give me creative freedom to do whatever. They don't dictate any of my topics. They don't have—you know, they don't share what I should talk about. They just let me submit whatever it is I think is relevant. And I love that. I love that they're willing to just let me have their stage for, you know, one episode a month and really share what is going on in small business life. So again, if you have not already subscribed there, please do so. Connect with me on LinkedIn if we're not already, because that's probably where you're going to get the most value from our content. And thanks so much. If you've been here and you're tuning in every week to help build the HR connection, I appreciate you more than you possibly know. I love it when people reach out, and so from time to time, certainly, I've had people reach out and talk to me about an episode, and I love that. I love getting the validation that the stuff that we're sharing is relevant to you, but also hearing your perspective and getting ideas from you on things that are going on that I could talk about. So if you have any of those, please definitely connect with me. I can't wait to see you over on the HR Connection. Again, we have an episode dropping August 28th. If you're watching after that time, then the next one will be September 26th. Until then, keep building workforces that work in a small environment. I know it's not easy, but you're doing great work. Thanks so much for being here.
